One dead, one injured from single-vehicle wreck in Mooresville

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – One person is dead and another is recovering following a single-vehicle crash in Mooresville on Friday night, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

It happened around 8:20 p.m. on I-77 South near mile marker 39. Troopers said a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 was traveling south when it lost control, drove off the right side of the roadway, and struck a tree on the passenger side.

The driver, 39-year-old Floyd Davis II, and passenger, 43-year-old Timmy Hartsoe Jr., were transported to an area hospital. Davis sustained non-life-threatening injuries, but Hartsoe died at the hospital as a result of his injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates that speed and impairment were contributing factors in the crash and that charges are pending, authorities say.
