Chilly Tuesday, a bit warmer Wednesday
Outside of a few rain and snow showers Wednesday evening in the High Country, moisture will be hard to come by over the next five days.
Not everyone saw snow on Monday, but Mother Nature is spreading the wealth when it comes to cold air as we kick off the second day of the workweek. Teens and 20s for lows will eventually yield to highs in the 30s and 40s across the board this Tuesday afternoon, roughly 10-15Β° below average for mid-December. This cold snap is sharp, but it won’t last long; highs return to more seasonable levels in the 40s and 50s on Wednesday. Don’t expect the “warmer” temperatures to last long, either, as another cold front sweeps into the Carolinas from the west. While the only moisture it brings will manifest in the form of scattered rain and snow showers in the High Country, it will make up for the lack of precipitation by plunging the WCCB Charlotte viewing area back below average in the temperature department. Highs will struggle to clear 50Β° on Thursday and Friday around the Metro as lows dip below freezing once again for the final morning of the workweek.
Saturday should easily be the warmest day of the week as highs, aided by abundant sunshine and southwesterly winds, reach near 60Β° in the Queen City. Our next best chance for rain in the Piedmont lies on Sunday as yet another cold front pushes into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area. Models are unsure exactly how much moisture will make it over the Appalachians, but we likely won’t see a washout to close out the weekend. However, much like with Wednesday’s incoming front, temperatures will drop well below freezing as we move into the back half of December.
