A hazy and hot Friday ahead
Tracking rain in your 7 day forecast
Another hot one is on the way Friday with highs in the mid to upper 80s in the Piedmont and Foothills. Highs will reach the low to mid 70s in the High Country. A new addition to the sky tomorrow will be wildfire smoke from ongoing fires in south Georgia. This will approach our skies thanks to high pressure offshore bringing in flow from the south. This looks to be relatively short-lived as skies should be less smoky on Saturday thanks to another wind shift.
The Saturday wind shift comes with an approaching front from the west. This looks to have just enough lift with it to produce scattered showers and storms during the second half of the day. This will be the start of a generally more active pattern to end April and start May. This becomes evident with another chance of rain by the middle of next week as our dominant high pressure begins to break down.
These future rain chances won’t get rid of our drought as we are more than 7 inches behind on rainfall in 2026. However, it will help to at least stabilize the drought that has entered extreme territory. Remember that regardless of any rain, we are in a statewide burn ban in both Carolinas until further notice. Stay with the WCCB weather team as we continue to cover the ongoing drought situation!
