The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department received the 2019 L. Anthony Sutin Civic Imagination Award Tuesday from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.

H. Ross Perot, the colorful, self-made Texas billionaire who rose from a childhood of Depression-era poverty and twice ran for president as a third-party candidate, has died. He was 89.

Gov. Cooper Signs "Death By Distribution" Bill Into Law

On July 8, 2019, Governor Roy Cooper signed into law "Death by Distribution" (H474). Representative Arp, a primary sponsor, said, "This new law will ensure that anyone who is working against us by selling opioids and lethal drugs that kill vulnerable people will be held accountable for their actions."

Health Officials Issue Warning About Pool Parasite

The sun is hot, the water is cool. People in the Charlotte area are taking advantage of swimming pools this summer. "So far, nothing [bad] happened," said Lorena. She was visiting Double Oaks pool in North Charlotte. As kids are playing, health officials with the Centers for Disease Control are warning of an increase in stomach bug cases caused by Cryptosporidiosis.
