Former South Carolina star QB collapses while coaching son’s football team, remains in hospital

GREENVILLE, S.C. — A University of South Carolina great remains hospitalized Thursday after collapsing while coaching his son’s youth football team in Greenville, South Carolina, Wednesday night. Connor Shaw, a standout quarterback with the Gamecocks from 2010-2013, was taken to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital by ambulance after suffering an unknown medical emergency.

It is not known what condition Shaw is in currently, but heartfelt tributes have been posted to social media from former teammates and those who knew the star quarterback.

Shaw was a three-year starter during his time in Columbia, throwing for 6,704 yards and 56 touchdowns versus only 16 interceptions. Shaw was elected to the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame in 2021.
