Heat, Humidity Steadily Rise

It won't come back all at once, but summertime feels will slowly build back into the forecast for the week ahead.

Well, it was nice while it lasted. After a fleeting taste of fall, summerlike heat and humidity will steadily build back into the forecast for our first full week of September. It won’t come back all at once, but the 90s should return to the Piedmont to kick off the first full week of September. Expect mainly sunny skies for our Labor Day weekend as high pressure continues its dominance over the Mid-Atlantic. As winds shift back to the south over the next few days, temperatures and humidity will slowly rise to slightly above normal values.

An expansive cold front will approach us from the west on Labor Day, but it will largely be starved of moisture. That said, isolated shower and storm chances will crop up mainly to the north of the Metro for the backside of our holiday weekend. Winds will shift to the north briefly on Tuesday, which may bring the humidity back down slightly, but don’t expect a big change in temperatures. A second dry cold front will arrive for the back half of the week, which could temper highs and bring back some more crisp air.
